Prayer @ MBBC

In Acts 4, when the apostles were unjustly arrested, imprisoned, and threatened, they didn’t call for a protest; they didn’t reach for some political leverage.  Instead, they headed to a prayer meeting.  Soon the place was vibrating with the power of the Holy Spirit.

The apostles had this instinct: When in trouble, pray.  When intimidated, pray.  When challenged, prayer.  When persecuted, pray.

At Mt Barker Baptist we have four prayer initiatives that we want to encourage people to connect with:

1) Weekly prayer meeting - Meets every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm at the Church.  This ministry is led by Jeff Gregory and is a tremendous time of ministry together.  All welcome to attend and receive prayer and join in prayer.

2) Emergency prayer chain - We have a number of people who are on a special phone prayer chain who, once contacted, will stop whatever they are doing and be in prayer.  This is particularly useful for emergency prayer where we need people to be praying right then and there for an immediate need.  To get something on this chain please ring Ross Prior on 8391 2449 or one of the pastoral team.

3) Prayer email distribution - We have a email distribution list of 40+ people.  When a prayer request is received via phone, SMS, or email it is sent to this distribution list and people are mobilised to pray.  Simply email office@mbb.org.au or dan@mbb.org.au or contact one of the pastoral team and they will forward your email on.

4) Prayer ministry counseling - We are developing a number of trained prayer ministry counsellors that can be accessed for specific needs.  By 'prayer ministry' we mean the use of prayer and Holy Spirit led counseling to help a person resolve problems in their lives and receive healing through Jesus.  Please contact Maxine Kickert or Pastor Dan Harbottle for more information.

I want to encourage all of our church to be involved in our prayer initiatives in some way.  Let’s connect with God and one another through transforming and life giving prayer.

“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
